Mr. Davis was an
educator in Columbus for many decades. Mr. Davis came to Columbus
around 1900 from Chattahochee County. While in Chattahochee County Mr.
Davis was a teacher at St. Peter's Church, a minister and the county
coroner.
Around 1905
Jefferson D. Davis came to Columbus and began teaching at Wynnton Hills
Baptist Church. Around 1918 Mr. Davis moved to 28th Street School,
where he was both principal and teacher.
During the early
1920's, Mr. Davis once again moved to another school. He became
assistant principal of Claflin under Mr. S. R. Marshall. He later
became principal and stayed at this capacity until his death.
